First thing the reader should know is this is from a passengers perspective, my husband is the pilot We stopped here on our way north from Quesnel and again on our way south from Atlin (June/July 2023). On the northbound trip we camped under the wing, on the grass at the south end of the airport in front of Tsayta Air. The view of Hudson Bay Mountain is wonderful! There is a porta-potty and picnic table nearby but no water. On the southbound trip we caught a ride to town with a local pilot and spent two nights at the Capri Motel (I plan to do a YELP review for them so if your curious look for it) The town of Smithers is very walkable and folks are quite friendly. Many services are available (Banks, Hardware, gift shops, restaurants, grocery & liquor, etc) and there is a nice walking path near the RR as well as a wetlands area where I enjoyed birding. By asking around we were able to get the name of someone who took us back to the airport for $20. I also want to mention there doesn’t seem to be an FBO and it’s worth walking over to the commercial terminal to see the huge stuffed Grizzly there in person.
