Schafer Meadows is a backcountry airport with excellent camping. Be mindful of the USFS horses that will occasionally roam the runway as well as rough ground near the campground parking. The campground itself can be extremely buggy in the summer. Be prepared. Denstity altitude problems are common here in the summer.

Parking is available at the east end of the runway which is the closest to the campground. There is also parking available at midfield in front of the guard station, but this is typically used by planes dropping off rafting groups as a short term unloading area.
